Ustazah Nighat Hashmi stands as the visionary founder and Chairperson of Al-Noor, a distinguished Islamic education and welfare organization in Pakistan. Established with the noble aim promoting character building and behavior modification among Muslim youth through the teachings of Islam, Al-Noor has made significant strides since its inception in 1996. Under her leadership, the organization has proudly witnessed the graduation of millions of students, the publication of numerous books addressing societal, moral, and religious needs, and the provision of assistance to over 4 million families nationwide. In addition to these accomplishments, Ustazah Nighat Hashmi has spearheaded the establishment of Al-Noor School and Al-Noor College, institutions renowned for their commitment to merit-based admissions and the cultivation of talent from across Pakistan.

As a teacher, esteemed international Islamic scholar, social entrepreneur, author, and former lecturer, she brings a wealth of expertise to her role. Holding master's degrees in Arabic and Islamic studies, as well as an M.Phil. in education, she previously served as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor at Islamia University, Bahawalpur, from 1994 to 2007. Early Life & Education

Born in Sargodha, Punjab, Pakistan, in 1960, Scholar Nighat Hashmi is the daughter of a well-known Islamic scholar, the late Mr. Abdur Rehman Hashmi. Her father himself was a renowned Islamic scholar and a student of Maulana Shabbir Ahmad Usmani, inherited a rich tradition of knowledge. Descended from the Banu Hashim clan of the Quraish, with a lineage tracing back to the companion of Prophet Muhammad SAW; Abdullah Ibn Abbas (R.A), their family history is infused in the propagation of Islam in the Sub-Continent.

Growing up in an environment saturated with the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah, Scholar Nighat Hashmi received her initial Islamic education under the guidance of her respected father. His personal guidance and emphasis on Quranic education instilled in her a deep reverence for Islamic learning from a young age, fostering a profound connection to her faith. As a student, Scholar Nighat Hashmi demonstrated exceptional academic talent, winning numerous awards, medals, prizes, and scholarships throughout her educational journey. She pursued her passion for Islamic studies and education by obtaining a Master's degree in Islamiat, Arabic, and Education. Her dedication to academic excellence led her to further her studies, by completing an M.Phil. in Teacher’s Education.

In her professional career, Scholar Nighat Hashmi served as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor in Education at Islamia University, Bahawalpur, from 1994 to 2007. Witnessing the prevalent societal denial and the educational backwardness of women and girls, she recognized the urgent need to address these issues and contribute to the transformation of society. Motivated by a desire to illuminate the path from darkness to enlightenment, she actively engaged in efforts to promote education, particularly for women, as a means of societal upliftment and progress.

Ustazah Nighat Hashmi is a teacher, Islamic scholar, social entrepreneur, author, and former lecturer. She is recognized worldwide for her in-depth knowledge of the teachings of the Quran, Hadith, Seerah, contemporary issues of women and detailed study of Islam as a way of life. She has translated the Quran into the Urdu language. Her best work is the Quran an Ajaba (Tafseer of Quran in Question & Answer form).

Beginning of Practical Struggle

In 1995, while pursuing her M.Phil. in Teacher’s Education, Ustazah Nighat Hashmi embarked on a research endeavor centered on the theme: “Analysis of character building in the religious institutes of Pakistan.” The outcomes of this study unveiled a disheartening reality, starkly contrasting with the genuine teachings of Islam. Witnessing this disparity, she felt compelled by a profound sense of duty and responsibility to teach the true essence of Islam to the masses.

Thus, in 1996, inspired by the insights gleaned from her research, Ustazah Nighat Hashmi founded “Al-Noor International” with a clear mission: to promote character building and behavior modification among Muslim youth in alignment with the principles of Islam. Recognizing the pressing need to rectify misconceptions and discrepancies, Al-Noor International emerged as a beacon of guidance and enlightenment, dedicated to promoting authentic Islamic values and principles for the betterment of society.

Inception of Al-Noor

Driven by a genuine concern for humanity, Ustazah Nighat Hashmi embarked on a mission to convey the true essence of Islam after conducting thorough research in 1996. Recognizing Islam as the solution to the world's myriad challenges, she felt compelled to enlighten people about its transformative power. Motivated by her deep care and compassion, she envisioned the necessity of establishing a welfare organization dedicated to education and research for the betterment of society.

Thus, she laid the foundation of the inaugural educational center, "Al-Noor International," in Bahawalpur, initially starting with modest classes in her own home. Over time, this initiative flourished, leading to the establishment of Al-Noor Institutes across numerous cities in Pakistan. These institutes serve as bastions of learning, imparting the pristine teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah to eager learners.

Under the umbrella of the Al-Noor Welfare Foundation, the organization administers both Islamic and contemporary education, with a particular focus on empowering women of all ages. Al-Noor’s objective is to build a peaceful and healthy environment to nurture the future generation and make them practicing and beneficial citizens of the society, so that they can fulfill their responsibilities in the best manner.

Love for Quran

Ustazah Nighat Hashmi has undertaken the challenging and noble effort of reconnecting people with their Creator.
